Cuba
Planning to Increase Export of Fruit Juice Concentrate
HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 13 (acn) An ongoing plan to recover fruit tree
plantations in Cuba will allow the country to increase the
export of fruit juice concentrate, an official with the Ministry
of Agriculture said on Thursday.
|
Luis Torres Silva, the
technical and production director of the Fruit Tree
Division of the Cuban Agriculture Ministry, told ACN that
the purpose is
to obtain 20 tons of fruit juice concentrate per hectare,
which would also
guarantee the national supply of the product and the
substitution of imports.
He pointed out that the country has the necessary industrial
infrastructure to face the expected production of juice
concentrate
obtained from citruses and other fruit trees.
Torres Silva added that efforts are underway to increase the
number of
pineapple plantations due to the high price of this fruit in
the
international market.
The specialist announced that Europe will be the main target
of this
year’s exports while new markets are being explored in the
Caribbean area.
Today, there are nearly 100 cooperative farms in Cuba
working as part of a
development plan to increase the sowing of fruit trees.
