to Participate in Model United Nations Conference in Havana
HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 16 (acn) Some
300 university students will meet in this capital to take
part in the 17th Model United Nations (MUN) Conference,
Havmun 2012, to be held from March 19th through the 23rd.
The students will
role-play as diplomats in the sessions of that international
organization from the stance of the 104 UN member states, in
a discussion about the most important topics on the
international agenda, Bryan Gual Navarrete, secretary
general of the meeting, told the press.
He pointed out that this edition will be dedicated to the
65th anniversary of the United Nations Association of Cuba (ACNU)
and the 20th anniversary of the Rio de Janeiro Conference
for Sustainable Development, and ratified the presence of
over 60 delegates from Ecuador, Mexico, the United States
and Russia.
With human rights as their main theme, debates at Havmun
2012 will also focus on the promotion and consolidation of
peace, environmental care, the fulfillment of the Millennium
Goals, and questions related to the refugees, among others.
Gual Navarrete emphasized the importance of this meeting for
the training of students, due the arduous preparation prior
to the Conference, which includes over 40 scientific and
general lectures on topics like negotiation techniques and
the history of the United Nations.
