Representatives from various sectors convened by the
Frente Nacional contra el Golpe de Estado (Popular Front against the
Coup) were trying to reach, by car or by foot, Zelaya’s possible
point of entry to Honduras.
The de facto regime placed several military roadblocks on the
arteries that give access to the border, in order to prevent
demonstrators from passing, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
One of the demonstrators in El Paraiso city said that people are not
allowed to leave towns or cities.
In this locality, only 10 minutes away from Las Manos border post,
the army placed seven security rings and neither people nor vehicles
are allowed to pass.
In statements to the press, Karem Palencia, from the teachers guild,
said it’s not fair that the soldiers repress them, knowing that
they’re also part of the people.
Colonel Arcadio Castillo said he had orders to not let any one pass,
and warned that if President Zelaya entered the country he would be
apprehended.
