Venezuela: 10th Anniversary of the Bolivarian Revolution

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 2 (acn) The 10th Anniversary of the Bolivarian Revolution is being celebrated in Venezuela with a group of activities that includes an extraordinary summit of heads of state and government of the Bolivarian Alternative of Our America (ALBA).

Activities began this Monday with a ceremony to honour Simon Bolivar.

A floral wreath will be laid at the national pantheon were The Liberator’s remains are kept and also at all the monuments to Bolivar across the country, according to an ABN report. 

The 4th Extraordinary ALBA Summit of Heads of State and Government will be inaugurated later in the day with the participation of presidents Evo Morales (Bolivia), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), Manuel Zelaya (Honduras), Daniel Ortega (Nicaragua), the Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Cuban Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura and Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, among other guests.   

Finally, President Hugo Chavez and his counterparts from ALBA-member countries will participate in a mass meeting this afternoon along with the Venezuelan people to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Bolivarian Revolution this February 2, which has been declared a public holiday.  

The Cuban First VP highlighted the significance of the Bolivarian Revolution upon arriving in Caracas on Sunday. He said “The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, is materializing the ideas of (Simon) Bolivar,” reports the PL news agency.  

“It is very important for us to be here today because Chavez, as the leader of this Revolution, is a Caribbean man who is following the ideals of Bolivar and (Jose) Marti,” Machado added.
