German Organization in Cuba Boosts Local Development
HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 17 (acn) Local development programs aimed at strengthening the sustainability of food security in Cuba have been boosted for two decades now by the German non-governmental organization Welthungerhilfe.
Joint programs include strategies focused on the mitigation of the effects of draught on the island's five eastern provinces, Susanne Scholaen, its representative to Cuba, told ACN on Tuesday during a work panel to analyze the achievements and challenges of intentional cooperation.
She pointed out that an important step to achieve the high productive results shown by the involved cooperatives is the systematic training of farmers on topics having a direct bearing on economic management, the transfer of technology and the planning of long-term investment projects.
Actions also included the diversification of productions, topics on gender equity, and monetary aid after the passage of hurricanes through national territory.
