Cuban Liuba Maria Hevia Performs in the Dominican Republic
HAVANA, Cuba, May 6 (acn) Cuban singer and composer Liuba Maria Hevia said farewell on Tuesday to the Dominican Republic, with a concert entitled Tantas vidas (So many lives) at the Casa de Teatro of Santo Domingo, after her fourth visit to that nation.
The artist interpreted Ausencia to pay tribute to Dominican singer Sonia Silvestre, who died recently, who liked that piece very much, according to Liuba's words to the Prensa Latina news agency.
Liuba traveled to the Dominican Republic mainly to participate in the 17th International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2014, which wound up on Monday.
During the book fiesta, which lasted 12 days, Liuba, also a Good Will Ambassador of the United Nations Children's Fund, offered four recitals, three of them dedicated to children.
Two days before, Liuba concluded the series of presentations at the Tarima Caribe, of the Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Square. She opened the last concert with Señor Arcoiris (Mr. Rainbow), a piece she dedicated to a little girl dressed in the colors of the rainbow.
Songs such as El trencito y la hormiga, El cangrejo Alejo, Estela es un granito de canela, La vacuna and La Marcha de las letras were also received with joy by the public.
Accompanied by Arnulfo Jose Guerra, Liuba interpreted El grillito acatarrado and Lo feo, by her late compatriot Teresita Fernandez, to whom she referred as the greatest composer of children's songs in Cuba.
