Delegates of Argentina, Brazil, the United
States, Puerto Rico and other countries will
accompany hosts at Havana’s Hotel Nacional de
Cuba, a facility that is an example of this
design movement, more popular from 1920 to 1939
and the influence of which lasted until the
1950’s.
Gladys Collazo, president of the Habanadeco
Group, one of the sponsors of the meeting along
with the International Coalition of Art Deco
Societies (ICADS), explained on Monday to the
press that the Congress will go beyond
theoretical meetings to include artistic
activities.
Scheduled to begin on March 7, the Havana Art
Deco Festival will include a film cycle with
Cuban movies made and set in the first half of
the 20th century, exhibitions of posters and
magazine covers, presentation of books and dance
galas, she pointed out.
Gustavo Lopez, general coordinator of the
Congress, specified that lectures will be given
in other venues in the capital, like Havana’s
Casa de las Americas cultural institution, the
National Museum of Decorative Arts, and the
America Theater, examples of this current in the
city.
