Cuban
Children to Honor Jose Marti on his Birth Anniversary
HAVANA, Cuba,
Jan 26 (acn) An
estimate of more than one million Cuban children and
teenagers will take part in parades and meetings at schools
and public places on January 28 to mark the 159th
anniversary of Cuba’s National Hero Jose Marti’s birth.
Streets, squares and parks in
all 168 municipalities of the country will
bear witness of the homage that will be distinguished by
local initiatives.
In the parades, children will dress up like characters from
Jose Marti’s
children’s book like Meñique, Pilar and Nene Traviesa; while
others will
wear outfits identifying farmers, combatants, doctors or
carry all sorts
of working tools representing Marti’s ideals and his support
of working
classes, humanism and anti-imperialism.
The main venue for the homage will be the Revolution Square
in Havana
where youngsters from the adjacent municipalities will
gather by the
monument to Marti early on Saturday, January 28. They will
all carry a
flower as a token of their infinite love for the writer of
“La Edad de
Oro” (The Golden Age).
