Solidarity with Cuba Forums Open in Peru and Argentina
HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 17 (ACN) The
13th Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba opens today at the
Peruvian city of Chiclayo, while a similar forum, the 12nd
of its kind, is taking place over the weekend in the city of
Cordoba, Argentina.
According to PL news agency, the gathering in northern
Peru will be attended by Adriana Perez, wife of Gerardo
Hernandez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters
held in the US, and by hundreds of solidarity activists
from around the country.
Also attending are professionals who graduated in Cuba
and youths currently taking courses on the island, along
with Cuban Ileana Alfonso, whose father was one of the
73 victims of the 1976 terrorist bombing of a Cubana
airlines jet off the coasts of Barbados.
In interviews with different media outlets, Adriana
Perez has explained that her husband, who was given two
life terms plus 15 years, and his four countrymen were
convicted after they tried to prevent new crimes against
the Cuban people, like the one in Barbados.
Meanwhile, the 12th Solidarity Forum to take place in
Argentina aims at adding new forces to the international
campaign for the return to Cuba of the five
anti-terrorist fighters.
Known as the Cuban Five, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio
Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene
Gonzalez, were arrested in 1998 by FBI agents and
submitted to a biased Miami trial that gave them
extremely long and unfair sentences.
The forum, to take place at the General Paz municipal
sports center in the city of Cordoba, will also promote
actions for the release of the five like urging
municipal and provincial governments and
parliamentarians to join the international campaign.
