After a weak first
round against another five shooters,
including world record holder Russian
Alexei Kilmov (592 points), Pupo showed
nerves of still till the final round and
set a new Olympic record and tied the
world record in finals with 34 points.
The silver medal went
to Vijay Kumar from India with 30 points
and the bronze went to Chinese Feng
Ding, youth world record holder (588)
with 27 points. Kilmov finished fourth,
one day after setting the world and
Olympic records.
German Christian
Reitz, who had owned the world record
since 2008, finished last in the medal
round.
This is Cuba’s first
gold medal in these Games. It now
accumulates one gold, two silver and one
bronze, and jumped from the 26th
place in the medal standings to the 19th.
