Caravan member Louis
Wolf told the Cuban news agency that he
felt satisfaction after touring a senior
citizens’ home in the central city of
Santa Clara, where he attended a
cultural activity offered by old ladies
at the place.
Wolf, who is a member
of the US Communist Party, stressed the
effective Cuban social security
assistance program, which guarantees all
citizens high-quality medical services.
Meanwhile, US
activist Mike Beilstein said he has
toured the island on seven occasions
over the past years as part of his
caravan program and he said that he has
not seen old citizens begging on Cuban
streets.
However, in the
United States you can frequently find
senior citizens begging on the streets,
since they have no place to live, said
Beilstein, and noted that this reality
reveals a big difference between the two
nations.
Cuba is a school
where you can learn about social
justice, equality, civil rights and
about the care for senior citizens,
which is one of the major achievements
of this country despite the over-50 year
US economic blockade, said the activist.
