During commemorations
in Chile for the date, Pizarro addressed
members of political and social
organizations at the Santiago de Chile
former National Congress as she
described the events of July 26 as a
decisive feat in the struggle that led
to the Cuban people´s victory in 1959.
The attack on the
Moncada garrison paved the way for the
triumph of a revolution that has put the
respect for human dignity at the center
of its efforts, said the renowned human
rights activist.
According to PL news
agency, Pizarro stressed the permanent
internationalist vocation of the Cuban
people and called for the end of the US
economic, commercial and financial
blockade of the island.
She also demanded the
immediate release of Rene Gonzalez,
Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero,
Fernando Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez,
the five Cubans held in the U.S. since
1998.
The event was
attended by renowned political leaders,
as well as by the ambassadors of Cuba,
Nicaragua and Venezuela to Chile.
