Caribbean
Festival in Solidarity with the Cuban Five
HAVANA, Cuba, July 5 (ACN)
Participants at the Caribbean Festival, underway in eastern
Santiago de Cuba, called for the immediate release of the
five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters held in the U.S. since
1998.
The Cuban newspapers Granma
and Juventud rebelde echoed the decision by the
participants, artists and intellectuals, at the Festival to
hold a forum titled “The Caribbean for the Five,” which
opened sessions Wednesday at the local Antonio Maceo
Revolution Square.
During the first session of the forum, attended by the
president of the Cuban Friendship Institute Kenia Serrano,
participants agreed to reinforce all actions to spread the
truth of the case of the Cuban Five among US intellectuals,
lawmakers, unionists, religious leaders, academicians and
social communicators.
In a declaration read by outstanding sculptor Alain
Dumbardon, from Martinique, the forum stressed the
significance that this demand has been issued in an event
like the Caribbean Festival, which is considered a meeting
place of Caribbean cultures.
Kenia Serrano referred to the intense work underway in the
region in favor of the Cuban Revolution and against the
unfair sentences given to the five Cuban heroes in the
United States and the misinformation campaigns against them.
Serrano stressed the need to intensify actions to spread the
truth of the case of Gerardo Hernadez, Fernando Gonzalez,
Ramon Labanino, Rene Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero on the
social networks, blogs and alternative media outlets.
Participants at the forum, which is being attended by
relatives of the Cuban Five on Thursday, will exchange views
with local people at a Santiago de Cuba community on
Thursday.
