Four Days of Boleros in Havana
HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 21 (acn) A colloquium on boleros in the
Caribbean will be the starting point of a festival in Havana
on Thursday dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth
of Cuban composer Cesar Portillo de la Luz.
A conference will include the
influence of Cuban musicologist Argeliers
Leon (1918-1991) in the boleros of the region, according to the
Prensa
Latina news agency.
Bolero singers and groups from 14 countries will participate in
the event
which will be hosted by the Mella and America Theaters as the
main venues
of the night performances in the Cuban capital.
Among the renowned singers to the event is Portuguese Luis
Represas, one
of the most outstanding voices in that European nation.
Other figures are Colombian Anabella, laureate of the recent
edition of
the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile.
Latin America will be present with performances from Chile,
Panama, Costa
Rica, Peru and Puerto Rico. Nations with the most artists will
be
Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and Ecuador. Others include Spain,
Japan and
Russia.
The 24th International Boleros de Oro Festival, sponsored by the
Cuban
Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) will run until
Sunday. One of
the main objectives of the event is to attract the younger
generation to
one of the island´s important musical genre also important in
countries
like Mexico, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
