Tourism Could become Cuba’s First Economic Sector
HAVANA, Cuba, June 21 (acn) The
increasing development and improving service quality of
Cuban tourism could turn it into the island’s first or
second major economic sector in the future, said the Dean of
the Tourism Faculty at the Havana University, Lourdes
Cisneros.
Cisneros
addressed over 200 foreign experts in the area of tourism
research, who attended the 2nd International Tourist Studies
Conference
this week at Havana’s Conventions Palace, PL news agency
reported.
The specialist referred to an increasing flow of visitors
from countries
that were not considered significant sources of tourists for
Cuba years
before, particularly in Latin America. Growing relations
between the
island and nations of this region were addressed by the
expert as a factor
favoring a better positioning of the island’s tourist
industry on the
scale of major economic sectors.
Cisneros also said that the United States is a potential
source of tourist
for Cuba in the future if current US restrictions on the
island are
lifted, given the strong international rejection of the
unilateral
blockade measures and if that were the case, Cuba would be
ready for it,
since the island has the necessary infrastructure to receive
American
tourists.
