During the
February meeting in Havana, the General Secretariat of the
OCLAE, a platform that represents over 100 million students
of the region, decided to turn that brief and historic
speech by Fidel delivered 20 years ago into its flag of
combat at the Rio de Janeiro meeting.
Among actions, Reynier Limonta, president de la OCLAE on
behalf of Cuba’s University Students
Federation, mentioned an international student seminar,
inaugurated on Friday, which has the National Students Union
(UNE) of Brazil, the Brazilian Union of Secondary Students (UBES)
and the National Association of Postgraduates (ANPG) of
Brazil as hosts.
Coordinated together with the World Federation of Democratic
Youth (FMJD), the forum’s agenda is similar to that prepared
for the Conference, but from the perspective of students and
youngsters, who demand to be heard and to have real
participation in decision making with regard to issues
concerning mankind as a whole.
Delegates of 12 Latin American and Caribbean nations attend
the seminar, which will end on Monday with a march down the
streets of Rio.
