Both diplomats highlighted the importance of developing the bonds between Cuba and India in fields like sports, energy, biotechnology, informatics and others.

Krishna recalled a visit to India by Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro
in the 1980s and said Fidel is a legend in that country where over one
billion people live.

He said his country holds Cuba in high esteem because of the help given in
sports, and expressed his condolences for the recent death of Cuban
three-time Olympic and World champion boxer Teofilo Stevenson.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez thanked India for its solidarity for over half a
century and its support in the international arena, for an immediate
lifting of the US economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba.

The Cuban FM said both countries share the vision of a more democratic
United Nations and expressed Cuba’s support to India to become a permanent
member of the UN Security Council.

Krishna paid homage to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti earlier in the day
with a floral wreath. He will meet with several Cuban authorities and
visit places of interest.
