Cuban,
Indian Foreign Ministers Meet in Havana
HAVANA, Cuba, June 15 (ACN)
Cuban and Indian Foreign Ministers Bruno Rodríguez and S.M.
Krishna,respectively, met in Havana city to boost
cooperation between the two nations.
Both diplomats
highlighted the importance of developing the bonds between
Cuba and India in fields like sports, energy, biotechnology,
informatics and others.
Krishna recalled a visit to India by Cuban Revolution leader
Fidel Castro
in the 1980s and said Fidel is a legend in that country
where over one
billion people live.
He said his country holds Cuba in high esteem because of the
help given in
sports, and expressed his condolences for the recent death
of Cuban
three-time Olympic and World champion boxer Teofilo
Stevenson.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez thanked India for its solidarity for
over half a
century and its support in the international arena, for an
immediate
lifting of the US economic, financial and commercial
blockade against Cuba.
The Cuban FM said both countries share the vision of a more
democratic
United Nations and expressed Cuba’s support to India to
become a permanent
member of the UN Security Council.
Krishna paid homage to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti
earlier in the day
with a floral wreath. He will meet with several Cuban
authorities and
visit places of interest.
