Cuban
Workers Conclude Task in Haiti
HAVANA, Cuba, June 12 (ACN)—A
group of 30 workers with the Cuban cooperation brigade from
the island’s Sugar sector successfully concluded their tasks
in Haiti and returned home on June 11.
Cuban ambassador to
Port-au-Prince Ricardo Garcia stressed the high
commitment of the workers, whose cooperation mission has
been underway for
12 years now.
In the year 2000, Cuba’s cooperation helped rehabilitate the
Jean Leopold
Dominique sugar mill, formerly known as Darbonne. The sugar
factory had
been neglected for years and it resumed operations in 2001
after its
rehabilitation, according to a release posted on the Cuban
Foreign
Ministry’s website.
The State Secretary of Haiti’s Foreign Affairs and Cult
Ministry, Jean
Richard Casimir, acknowledged the significant contribution
made by Cuban
workers currently offering their services in his country’s
aquiculture sector.
Along the Cuban ambassador, Richard Casimir toured the fish
cultivation
farm in the region of Pont Sonde, Department of Artibonite,
where Cuban
workers are offering expertise and advice and he reiterated
his government
support of the cooperation program.
The Haitian government official announced his country’s
intentions to
expand fish farming in an effort to increase food production
for the
population.
