Book author Katiuska Blanco
called for a permanent struggle for the
preservation of Planet Earth, during the presentation in a
rainy Thursday
evening.
“The strength of this rain shows the power of nature and I
believe that
this strength we are witnessing this evening must be our
inspiration to
keep fighting as Fidel has requested,” Blanco said.
The presentation of the Portuguese edition of the book took
place at the
Tom Jobin hall, in the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. The
heavy rain
prevented many from making it to the place, PL news agency
reported.
Brazilian writer and poet Fernando Morais explained that in
Brazil they
say that when it rains during a wedding ceremony, it makes
the marriage
eternal and he addressed Blanco to say “you must know that
this rain is
now blessing the marriage of Fidel’s work and Brazil. It
will be an
eternal marriage.” He noted.
Author of several biographies, Morais stressed the big
privilege of Blanco
to have been selected to write about Fidel’s life, the most
important
figure of the 20th century, and who keeps being so in 21st.
“I imagine the hard work you’ve been through and you are
still to
do—Morais told Blanco—because you have thus far completed
two volumes and
you have not reached the 1959 revolution victory. Those two
volumes end
before the triumph. There is still a long way to go, he
said.”
In the autobiographical work, author Blanco was able to
depict Fidel’s
most profound tenderness and humbleness, shared by those who
have been
close to him. “He is that man we all would like to be,” said
Marilia
Guimaraes, president of the Brazilian chapter of the Network
in Defense of
Humanity.
The Portuguese edition of the book is limited and dedicated
to writer Jose
Saramago.
Cuban ambassador to Brazil, Carlos Zamora, stressed “the
privilege of
attending the presentation of a book about someone who is in
the hearts of
all of us: Fidel Castro.”
