Cuban Sciences: Natural and Traditional Medicine Used in Camaguey to Quit Smoking
CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Jun 8 (acn) Remedies and techniques of natural and traditional medicine is being used to reduce smoking habits in the province of Camaguey where 10.8 percent of the population over 15 years of age are smokers.

 

 


The mental health community centers in the territory, policlinics and
rehabilitation areas offer the service to the population as part of the
therapies to quit the habit.

Relaxation exercises, seeds placed in certain points on the ears, pressure
points, and homeopathy and flower therapy are used in the anxiety centers
that help people stop smoking.

Psychologist Olga Perez Ganfong, leader of the therapy in the city´s
community center told ACN News Agency that the natural and traditional
medicine is of great help for the people with this addiction allowing
controlling the negative effects like irritability and alternations when
lacking the nicotine in the body.

This was confirmed by Enrique Crespo, smoker for the last 33 years and
ready to kick the habit, who stressed that the seeds placed on his ears
and homeopathic drops were essential in the reduction of the desire to smoke.

The treatment is personalized which starts off with interviewing the
patient and a classification test and according to the degree of the
ailment different procedures will be recommended, stressed Dr Amel Prince,
specialist of Natural and Alternative Medicine at the rehabilitation
center where Crespo is being treated.

He highlighted that in addition to anxiety, different points of the body
are managed relating them with lung and respiratory muscles, based in the
principles of alternative medicine originated in China and with millions
of years of existence.

According to statistics published by the World Health Organization, over 6
million people die each year by ailments related to smoking, like cancer,
health conditions and asthma, and it is estimated that the number will
increase to 8 million by 2030.
