Cuban Artist Martha Jimenez Exhibits her Works in Newark
CAMAGUEY, Cuba, June 6 (ACN)—An art gallery named Gran Café
will soon be open in Newark, New Jersey, with original works
by Cuban artist Martha Jimenez, who recently made her fourth
visit to the United States.
Jimenez, who resides in this
eastern Cuban city, told the Cuban news
agency that the exhibit will open late this month or in early
July with
ten works, including engravings and screenprinting, and other
artistic
techniques, which mainly portray feminine images, and a
combination of
reality and fantasy in a surrealistic ambiance. Most works by
Jimenez are
marked by Cuban native and traditional elements.
During her latest visit to the U.S., the Cuban artist worked in
the
preparations of the Newark exhibit and also offered a three-day
training
in a Miami public school, where she advised a group of students
in
painting medieval scenes, as part of their school curriculum.
Martha Jimenez has exhibited her works in the United States
previously,
in the cities of New York and Boston. She has also made working
visits to
the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile, Canada, France and
Turkey.
Jimenez’s works were awarded a prize at the Havana International
Crafts
Fair by the UN Education, Science and Culture Organization
(UNESCO), and
other distinctions in artistic contests in China and Turkey.
Martha Jimenez was initially known for her ceramic works, though
she is
more popular in the fields of painting, engraving and other
visual art
modalities.
