The investment will contribute to economic savings and to the promotion of
the entity as an example in combining nature and harmony in the tourism
sector, said the specialist at that entity Maria Vence.

During the current year, the eastern province of Las Tunas will expand
renewable energy sources reaching 12.4 percent of the total consumption of
the province.

An investment process in the production entities and services will allow
the use of 25 windmills for cattle raising, adding to over one thousand in
the territory.

During the current year, 18 bio-gas (organic material) to cook food in
communities close to porcine centers will be used in addition to several
irrigation equipment and water pumps powered through solar panels.

Rolando Sales, of the Provincial Electricity Company pointed out that out
of the 8 municipalities in Las Tunas province there are over 2 thousand
centers that work with solar panels, wind, water and biomass, however the
potential is much more than what is currently used.

He added that there are studies that show the possibility of broadening
the generating capacity through agro generators and solar panel parks,
above all in the northern region where, for example there are sustained
winds of over 6 meters per second.

In the Pasture and Fodder Station in Las Tunas, an area will be installed
on renewable energy and will be used in rural zones where courses will be
carried out and experimental programs.

According to Anisley Santiesteban, Researcher for the Research Center on
Energy Efficiency and Technology Processes, more knowledge on its use must
be extended, because on occasions bad work stops the good management of
the equipments installed.
