The institution, which belongs
to the Association of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) have been
organizing the monthly cultural event for over 10 years with
primary, secondary and high school students.
Singer Mario Darias and his
duet musical companion Ana Irma, traditional hosts of the
event, had previously collaborated with the Mapeyé Group
with which had recorded a CD with poems of Jose Marti put
into music and together prepared a tour throughout the
island to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the birth of
Cuba´s National Hero.
Tony Mapeyé, winner of an international award at the 2012
Cubadisco Festival, told ACN News Agency that it is an
honor, but in reality the winner of such recognition is 94
year old quartet singer Iluminado Avila who lives in Morovi,
Puerto Rico.
He pointed out that it’s an
anthological collection of composers and instrumentalists of
the region where traditional music is conserved and the
cuatro is preserved (a typical cultural instrument used in
Puerto Rico).
Regarding the Repentismo as
Cuba´s National Heritage, Mapeyé highlighted that this
expression is enriched and preserved by the peoples
themselves but for an institution to recognize its value is
a solid commitment for its survival and an example that must
be followed by other nations.
Roberto Silva and Jerry
Rodriguez visited Cuba on this occasion to participate in
the World Championships of Pie Forzados (Cuban country
music) that organized Cubadisco 2012 and both praised this
initiative because it does not only support art cultivated
in Cuba but also in many Ibero American countries.
The small Puerto Rican
delegation believe that these festivals in Cuba has world
repercussion and are a cultural reference that must copied
with a spiritual group environment.
