Del Toro, who was born in Puerto Rico and became a naturalized Spaniard, went to that city of the Cote d’Azur to attend the presentation of the film "Seven Days in Havana," a collection of the same number of shorts, one of which he directed, the Prensa Latina Web site reported.

Del Toro told the press that the US ban on traveling to Cuba is a kind of censorship, and that in order to travel to the Caribbean island you have to ask for a special permission from the U.S. government, pay a large amount of money, and then wait for several months to obtain the approval.

That is not the case with any other Caribbean country said the actor, who won an Oscar for his role in the film "Traffic," and also the award in the Best Actor category in Cannes 2008 for his role in "Che, the Argentinean."
