Ciego de Avila Province Doubled Transport Cargo by Railroad
HAVANA, Cuba, May 9 (acn) The
arrival of modern wagons and the use of adequate equipment
in restoring railways in Ciego de Avila province increased
the transportation of merchandise and savings of some 18
tons of fuel a month.
The province is
the first to achieve a national program in restoring
railways which will generate earnings to the territory for
some 7 200 tons
of products.
This figure contrasts with the 3 600 in the first semester
of 2011,
reported Alexander Casanova Cerreda Deputy Director of Cargo
of the State
Traffic Center.
Ciego de Avila has 703 kilometers of railway, the majority
needing some
kind of restoration in search for more efficiency in
passenger and cargo
transportation.
Esteban Echemendia Payan, Provincial Director of the Moron
Railway and
Bridges Business Center said that workers of the entity and
the Youth
Labor Army finished 23 kilometers of railways between the
towns of
Jatibonico and Ciego de Avila.
They also have 95 percent of the stretch between Ciego de
Avila and the El
Corojo community east of the province.
