Several
La Bodeguita del Medio Establishments to be Opened in Europe
HAVANA, Cuba, Apr
25 (acn) New establishments like La Bodeguita del Medio will open
this year in several European cities, a clear expression of the
prestige this Havana´s bar-restaurant and the quality of Cuban
cocktails enjoy worldwide.

Budapest, Hungary in Sofia,
Bulgaria, in Munich, Germany, and Vienna,
Austria, are the cities that will host the new premises, with
the typical
menu of meals, drinks and musical environment that is enjoyed in
the
original house located at Empedrado 207 in Old Havana.
During the First International Workshop on Service Management
underway in
Havana, one of actions set to mark the 70th anniversary of the
iconic
establishment, details were learned on the excellent
opportunities there
are in the international expansion of this true symbol of Cuban
identity.
Ladislav Starka, vice president of the KVP Gastro group and
representative
of the Bodeguita del Medio in the Czech Republic, Macedonia and
in Sydney,
Australia, said the Mojito, the typical drink that characterizes
it, "a
few years ago little was known, but currently has wide demand in
the
European market. "
“There are no decent restaurant that does not include in its
menu,” Starka
said, specifying that still other new stores are projected.
On Tuesday the Cuban and foreign participants in the workshop
debated on
bar management. Meanwhile bartenders spoke on key issues such as
the
history of El Mojito, signature drink of La Bodeguita and one of
the most
internationally renowned Cuban cocktails next to the Daiquiri
and Cuba Libre.
The pairings of cocktails on the island with world famous
Habanos was
another topic addressed by Pedro Tejeda, best seller of the
Bodeguita del
Medio in 2011.
La Bodeguita del Medio, founded by Angel Martinez from 1942,
began to
build its fame and prestige for Creole food and the visit of
famous
artists, writers and politicians such as Nicolas Guillen that
immortalized
it in a poem.
Ernest Hemingway, Literature Nobel Prize, was another of the
figures who
helped popularize the enclave with the famous phrase of "My
daiquiri in El
Floridita and my mojito in La Bodeguita".
