Despaigne not only smashed the
previous record of 33 round-trippers —set
in 2011 by former teammate Yoennis Cespedes and Cienfuegos’ Jose
Dariel
Abreu—, but he also improved it to 35 as he blasted another
dinger off
reliever Roberto Carlos Santiesteban.
With eleven games remaining in the regular season, Despaigne is
very
likely to continue improving his record and also to reach the
200-homerun
career mark, from which he is only one four-bagger short.
“We are trying to advance to the post-season and, rather than
the new
record, what I want the most is to help my team to be in the
next phase
and play for the championship,” Despaigne told reporters on
Tuesday night.
