Alarcon held a meeting in this capital with Danny Pieters, first vice-president of the Belgian Senate, during which he expressed his appreciation for the numerous demonstrations of solidarity received from the European nation.

He asserted that the two countries ant their legislative organs have developed, throughout the years, constructive bonds that have favored cooperation in other areas, and expressed Cubans’ respect towards the Belgian people.

After thanking the Cuban government for the attentions received on the island, Pieters stated that Brussels and Havana share universal values and affections that have made it possible to build table bonds at State and parliamentary levels. He also expressed his wish of consolidating relations and strengthening exchanges between the two countries.

Also present at the meeting –held at the capital’s Hotel Nacional- were deputies Tubal Paez and Osvaldo Martinez, vice-president and president of the commissions of International Relations and of Economic Affairs of the Cuban Parliament, respectively.

Since his arrival in Cuba on March 31, Pieters has been carrying out an extensive program of activities, which includes visits to centers of economic, political, social and historic interest in Havana, and meetings with Cuban officials.

Scheduled for Tuesday is a meeting between the visiting parliamentarian and relatives of the five Cuban heroes unfairly condemned in the United States for fighting terrorism.
