London Subway Stations Renamed after Cuban Athletes for Olympic
Games
HAVANA, Cuba, Mar
30 (acn) Transport for London (TFL), the local government body that
implements the transport strategy and manages transport services
across London, has given a new image to the subway system in the
British capital prior to the Olympic Games scheduled for
next summer there by changing the names of 361 stations after
renowned Olympic athletes, including several Cubans.
|
The new map brings in famous
Olympians from a variety of sports including
Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal, Romanian great gymnast Nadia
Comaneci,
Spanish cyclist Miguel Indurain, and U.S. basketball stars
Michael Jordan
and Larry Bird.
According to TFL, the map not only celebrates multiple gold
medal winning
athletes but also features other extraordinary athletes who may
not have
won an Olympic gold medal but are recognized for their abilities
or, in
some cases, famous defeats.
The list of Cuban athletes whose names have been used in the
initiative
include runner Alberto Juantorena; boxers Teofilo Stevenson,
Felix Savon,
Mario Kindelan, Angel Herrera, Andres Aldama, Guillermo
Rigondeaux, and
Yuriorkis Gamboa; and baseball players Omar Linares and Orestes
Kindelan.
