Nicaraguan Official Urges U.S. to Lift Blockade against Cuba
HAVANA, Feb 17 (acn) Nicaragua’s Minister for Foreign Affair Samuel Santos urged the U.S to lift the over 50-year-old economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba during a reception marking the seventh anniversary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America in Madrid, Spain.

The head of the Nicaraguan diplomacy delivered the closing words of a
cocktail party offered by the ambassadors to Spain of Bolivia, Cuba,
Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela -five of the countries making up the
block-, for about 500 guests, Prensa Latina reported.

After 20 resolutions passed by the United Nations showing an overwhelming
support of the lifting of the blockade, time has come for president Barack
to put an end to this unfair situation against the Caribbean nation,
Santos remarked.

Santos spoke as well about a meeting held Wednesday in Havana by ALBA
higher representatives in Havana where they made the decision to support
the participation of Cuba in the upcoming Sixth Summit of the Americas,
scheduled for April in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

“Cuba is the Americas, Cuba is CELAC (Community of Latin American and
Caribbean States), Cuba is all of us,” Santos stressed and went on to
criticize Washington’s refusal to accept the presence of Cuba at the forum.

In reference to ALBA, Cayo Lara, the leader of the Spanish United Left
coalition told PL Cuba and Venezuela were very brave in taking the
decision of creating this project of integration, which he considered to
be very important, to fight poverty and promote fair cooperation, at times
when capitalist competitiveness is growing wilder.
