Culture Minister Launches His Latest Work at Book Fair
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 14 (acn) The
novel “Viajes de Miguel Luna” (The journeys of Miguel Luna),
the latest literary work of Cuban Culture Minister Abel
Prieto was launched at the Cuba Pavilion in the framework of
the 21 International Book Fair, underway in Havana.
The book, by the Letras Cubans
publishing house, tells two parallel stories: the main
character’s growing up and an eventful journey he takes to
the fictitious island of Mulgavia, located in Europe.
Renowned essay writer and art critic Graziella Pogolotti,
2005 Cuba’s
Literature Award laureate, described the novel as an
extraordinaire piece
of subtleness that invites readers to think and reflect on
this
“shuddering contemporary reality we live in”
She praised the brilliant use of humor and the author’s
capacity to mix
reality and fantasy to create an entire culture, founding
myths, language,
art, geography, ethnic composition and social habits.
Abel Prieto said he was happy with the result and thanked
all that, one
way or the other, backed him up and collaborated with him,
making useful
suggestions that are reflected in the finished produce.
The Cuban Culture Minister, born in 1950, has published
several essays on
late writer Jose Lezama Lima, the short story books “Los
bitongos y los
guapos”, “No me falles”, “Gallego”, and “Noche de Sábado”,
and the novel
El vuelo del gato; the two latest received critics awards in
Cuba.
Former Culture Minister Armando Hart Davalos was present at
the launching,
as well as Roberto Fernández Retamar, president of Casa de
las Américas.
