Works will include the
execution –annexed- of an area of temporary facilities to
support the project, which includes warehouses in the open
or roof warehouses, a clinic to treat workers, and the
administrative building of the contractor.
According to the Petrocaribe Web site, with these
modernizations, the two Cuban entities will increase their
capacity of crude oil refinement to 150,000 and 50,000
barrels a day, respectively.
Statements by Rafael Ramirez, president of Petroleos de
Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), published by the aforementioned
portal, point out that the construction of another refinery
to process 150,000 barrels of oil will also be built in
Matanzas, which is part of the economic development program
boosted by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA).
With these new work plans, 570,000 barrels a day will be
incorporated to the Latin American and Caribbean region,
adds the portal.
At present, Petrocaribe guarantees over 45 percent of the
energy safety of ALBA member nations.
The oil company was created in 2005 following a cooperation
agreement in this field signed by 14 countries, during a
meeting of Caribbean heads of state and government held in
Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela.
