Cuba Paves the Way for Int’l Book Fair
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 8 (acn) Prior
to the opening of the 21st International Book Fair, Cuba
2012, scheduled for Thursday evening at the San Carlos de la
Cabaña exhibition grounds, Pabellon Cuba has already
launched a full program of cultural activities starting this
Wednesday, February 8, thru the 25th.
Available at Pabellon Cuba, a
centrally-located exhibition and cultural
center in Havana will be 280 new books among a total of
420,000 copies
released by all the publishing houses of the country, among
them Ediciones
Extramuros which brings 23 titles to the fair.
Presentations, meetings with writers and intellectuals,
shared reading
sessions and sales of books by the System of Territorial
Publishing
Houses, in addition to the traditional weekend concerts have
been
organized for the occasion.
The program started Wednesday morning with a fashion show by
the Talento
group, whose designs are based on costumes from Caribbean
countries to
which the Fair has been dedicated this year, the director of
the
Provincial Book and Literature Center, Carlos Lovaina
Castro, told Granma.
Among the most relevant events on the first day is the
presentation in the
afternoon of a book of essays entitled El rasguño en la
piedra (The
scratch on the stone) by National Literature Prize winner
Graziella
Pogolotti.
On Thursday afternoon, a book about an important Cuban
patriot Guillermon
Moncada: el ébano de la Guerra (Guillermon Moncada: the
War’s Ebony) by
Abelardo Padron will be launched.
