Cuban
Judo Teams to Compete in World Cups in Hungary and Austria
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb
7 (acn) The Cuban national judo teams will participate in the World
Cups of the sport scheduled for this weekend in Budapest (women’s),
Hungary, and in Oberwart (men’s), Austria.

As part of their European tour,
the Cuban judokas will try to continue
collecting points for the world ranking prior to April 30, when
the top 14
in women’s and the top 22 in men’s will be granted berths in the
upcoming
Olympic Games scheduled for next summer in London.
Last week, at the Grand Slam of Paris, Yanet Bermoy (women’s 52
kg),
Idalis Ortiz (women’s +78 kg), and Asley Gonzalez (men’s 90 kg),
took
bronze medals and each added 120 units to their tallies.
The other judokas who are participating in these tournaments are
Yaritza
Abel (63 kg), Damaris Mestre (48 kg), Yurisleidis Lupetey (57
kg), Onix
Cortes (70 kg), and Yalennis Castillo (78 kg) —all of them in
women’s.
The list is completed by Oscar Braison (+100 kg), Oreidis
Despaigne (100
kg), and Jose Alexis Armenteros (100 kg) —in men’s.
After Hungary and Austria, both Cuban squads will attend the
Grand Prix of
Düsseldorf, Germany, scheduled for February 18-19, which will
grant 200
points to the gold medalists.
Later on, the women’s team will go to the World Cup of Warsaw,
Poland, on
February 25-26, while the men’s squad will participate in the
World Cup of
Prague, Czech Republic, on the same date. These tournaments will
grant 100
units to the winners.
