Cuban Judokas Win Open Tournament in
Belgium
HAVANA, Cuba, Jan
30 (acn) The Cuban national women’s judo team —with four crowns, a
silver, and a bronze medal— won the Open Tournament of Arlon, held
over the weekend in that Belgian city with the participation of 249
representatives from 19 countries.

The titles were for Yurisleidis
Lupetey (57 kg), Onix Cortes (70 kg),
Yalennis Castillo (78 kg) and Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg). Meanwhile,
the silver
was for Dayaris Mestre (48 kg) and the bronze, for Yanet Bermoy
(52 kg).
The other Cuban competitor, Yaritza Abel (63 kg), placed ninth.
In all, the Cuban judokas held 41 bouts and won 38 —29 of them
by Ippon
(similar to K.O. in boxing).
The Cuban team is on a European tour trying to add points to
their world
ranking classification, which grants direct tickets to the
London 2012
Olympic Games.
On February 4-5 they will attend the Grand Slam of Paris and
later they
will participate in the World Cup (Feb. 11-12) of Budapest,
Hungary; the
Grand Prix (Feb. 18-19) of Düsseldorf in Germany; and the World
Cup (Feb.
25-26) of Warsaw, Poland.
