Army General Raul Castro,
First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC chaired
the meeting, under way at Havana’s Convention Center with
the attendance of over 800 delegates from all over the
country.
The presentation and approval of the reports of the four
commissions in session and the objectives of the PCC in its
work are part of the agenda for Sunday at the meeting, aimed
at achieving efficiency and efficacy in the implementation
of the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy approved
at the 6th Congress of the PCC.
The work, methods and work style of the Party; political-
ideological work; the policy to select officials, and work
relations with the Young Communists League (UJC) and mass
organizations, were the center of debates on the
Conference’s draft document.
During the inaugural ceremony on Saturday, Jose Ramon
Machado Ventura, Second Secretary of the Central Committee,
highlighted that, previously, in over 65,000 meetings, PCC
and UJC members at grass roots levels had made proposals
aimed at freeing the Party from tasks that are not in its
area of responsibility, and at breaking with schematic
approaches, passiveness, lack of fighting spirit and other
inadequacies.
