National
Conference of the Cuban Communist Party Begins on Saturday
HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 27 (acn) The
First National Conference of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC)
begins on Saturday, January 28, with the purpose of
assessing the work of this political organization, as agreed
during the Fourth PCC Congress held in April 2011. The
beginning of the meeting will coincide with the 159th
anniversary of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti’s birthday.
The draft base document of the
Conference, whose initial version was
published last October, was analyzed in more than 65,000
meetings by the
members of the PCC and the Young Communist League (UJC), who
expressed
more than one million opinions, which resulted in the
modification of 78
of the draft’s 96 objectives and the addition of another
five.
Earlier this month, the 811 delegates to the Conference
analyzed the
modifications recommended and they will continue discussing
the document
on Saturday at Havana’s Convention Center on behalf of the
over 800,000
PCC members.
The closing session of the Conference is scheduled for
Sunday, January 29.
