The exhibition of 56 photos of the dancer taken from 1925 to 2011 during
social events, private occasions and on stage is part of a series of
events marking Alonso’s debut 80 years ago.

The snapshots are part of the National Museum of Dance’s collection. They
show moments of Alonso’s visit to Leningrad during a tour of the former
Soviet Union; there is one with her daughter Laura taken in 1945, and
another one at 15, in 1935.

Pedro Reyes, audiovisual specialist of the local TV channel said to be
honored as one of the pictures in the display was taken by him on the 90th
birthday of the legendary dancer in which she is next to her husband Pedro
Simon.

Reyes said the images selected for the exhibition give viewers a closer
look to the life of Alonso.

Alberto Korda, Liborio Nodal, Nancy Reyes, Sandro Miller and Luis Alberto
Alonso are some of the authors of the collective exhibition which also
features Jean Babilée, an outstanding French dancer and photographer.

Dozens of people from Artemisa attended the inauguration, among them Berta
Martinez, the city’s historian, who said the presence of Alicia Alonso was
an honor for the newly founded province and for the Angerona gallery.
