Alicia Alonso Unveils Photo Exhibit on her Life
ARTEMISA, Cuba, Jan 26 (acn) Prima ballerina assoluta Alicia
Alonso inaugurated an exhibition of photos of her life at the
Art Gallery Angerona in the province of Artemisa, west Havana.

The exhibition of 56 photos of the dancer taken
from 1925 to 2011 during
social events, private occasions and on stage is part of a
series of
events marking Alonso’s debut 80 years ago.
The snapshots are part of the National Museum of Dance’s
collection. They
show moments of Alonso’s visit to Leningrad during a tour of the
former
Soviet Union; there is one with her daughter Laura taken in
1945, and
another one at 15, in 1935.
Pedro Reyes, audiovisual specialist of the local TV channel said
to be
honored as one of the pictures in the display was taken by him
on the 90th
birthday of the legendary dancer in which she is next to her
husband Pedro
Simon.
Reyes said the images selected for the exhibition give viewers a
closer
look to the life of Alonso.
Alberto Korda, Liborio Nodal, Nancy Reyes, Sandro Miller and
Luis Alberto
Alonso are some of the authors of the collective exhibition
which also
features Jean Babilée, an outstanding French dancer and
photographer.
Dozens of people from Artemisa attended the inauguration, among
them Berta
Martinez, the city’s historian, who said the presence of Alicia
Alonso was
an honor for the newly founded province and for the Angerona
gallery.
