Bayamo to Host Int’l Conference on Iberian American Heritage
HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (acn) The
city of Bayamo, in the eastern province of Granma will be
the venue of the fifth scientific conference entitled "The
Cultural Heritage of Iberian American Peoples" scheduled for
February 4-6.
Professors, museologists and
other specialists from Mexico, Peru, Colombia
and various Cuban provinces will analyze the relationship
between heritage
and culture, history, religion, educational systems,
informatics, society
and governmental policies.
They will discuss in particular the cultural impact of the
Havana-based
University of Information Sciences, inaugurated in 2002, in
the Cuban
society, and the role of the family in the preservation of
the historical
memory and patrimonial values of the countries.
The program includes a lecture on Cuba’s World Heritage
Sites by architect
Nilson Acosta, vice president of the National Heritage
Council, and
sessions for scientific debates about museum sensitivity and
restoration.
Participants in the event will have the opportunity to visit
places of
historical and environmental value such as the Desembarco
del Granma
National Park, situated in the coastal municipality of
Niquero, which was
declared in 1999 a Natural Heritage Area.
Prior to the conference, Mexican professor and architect
Vicente Ortega
has been teaching a workshop in Bayamo since Tuesday about
wood
restoration, which includes the recovery of the door to the
Nuestra Señora
de los Dolores chapel.
