In a meeting at the UNESCO's Friends Club, the “Cuba no está sola” (Cuba
is not alone) campaign was launched with objective of counteracting the
merciless war unleashed by media multinationals with the clear mission of
spreading a misleading image of the island.

The solidarity movement denounced Esperanza Aguirre, with the rightwing
Partido Popular (PP) and president of the Community of Madrid, for using
public funds and spaces for activities held by anti-Cuba groups based in
the Spanish capital, says a PL report.

The Cuba supporters said Aguirre’s deceiving policy is in tune with the
interests of the U.S.-based Cuban-American terrorist extreme right.

It was noted that the conservative leader’s behavior is unworthy in a
public position, especially in the current economic crisis Spain is going
through with five million people unemployed at present, the highest rate
in the European Union.

Speaking at the meeting, Angeles Diez, a professor of the Universidad
Complutense de Madrid, said the name of the campaign was quite appropriate
since the main purpose of the media war against Cuba was to have the
island isolated.

“If we allow them to isolate Cuba, we will be facilitating the conditions
for an armed intervention,” Diez stressed.

Francisco Calderon, member of the Solidarity for Development and Peace
organization denounce that money has been taken from development
cooperation funds to bankroll anti-Cuba organizations.

At the same time, we noted that Madrid is the second city, after Miami, of
the world where there the Cuban counterrevolution enjoys the greatest
public presence.
