In a
meeting with relatives of the Cuban Five, Ortega said that she
personally, as a woman, as a Venezuelan and as representative of
power
supported the cause of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio
Guerrero,
Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez.
After reiterating her willingness to collaborate in anything in
her power
with their cause, Ortega said the process against the Cuban Five
was
arbitrary and a violation of all the fundamental rights of
humanitarian
international law, Granma newspaper reported.
Four of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters remain imprisoned in
U.S
federal jails, and in the case of Rene Gonzalez, though released
in
September 2011, was not allowed to return to Cuba because of an
additional
punishment imposed on him for which he has to stay in that
country for
other three years on probation.
On behalf of the Cuban Five’s relatives present in the meeting,
Adriana
Perez, Gerardo Hernandez’ wife thanked the Venezuelan official’s
gesture
and noted that international support and pressure exerted so
that justice
be made we’ll make it possible for the Cuban Five to return to
their home
country.
