Int’l Sugar Cane Expert Interested in Attending Cuban
Congress on the Sector
HAVANA, Cuba, Jean Claude
Autrey, general secretary of the International Society of
Sugar Cane Technologists (ISSCT) announced his intention of
participating in the 50th Congress of Cuban Sugar Cane
Technicians (ATAC).
The executive
secretary of the Cuban institution, Raul Ferrer Robaina,
told ACN Autrey has expressed his interest in attending the
national
sessions of the meeting scheduled to take place in September
at Havana’s
Convention Center.
Ferrer Robaina said Autrey pointed out that there are a
large number of
highly-qualified sugar cane technicians in Cuba, Cuban
research centers’
potentials and the interest of the association in
strengthening relations
with the island.
Autrey, who visited Havana in 2011 along with businesspeople
from the
Mauricio Islands-based OMNICANE Ltd, said Cubans should be
part of ISSCT’s
specialized sections’ executive boards.
Regarding ATAC’s Congress, the institution’s president
Eduardo Lamadrid
said the provincial meetings prior to the event have been
very fruitful.
He added that the Congress is expected to contribute to
improving the
results of the sugar cane harvest for this year.
The ISSCT emerged 86 years ago and it has held 27
Congresses, usually at
3-year intervals. The last Congress was held in Veracruz,
Mexico. The next
XXVIII Congress is scheduled in São Paulo, Brazil in May
2013.
