The executive secretary of the Cuban institution, Raul Ferrer Robaina,
told ACN Autrey has expressed his interest in attending the national
sessions of the meeting scheduled to take place in September at Havana’s
Convention Center.

Ferrer Robaina said Autrey pointed out that there are a large number of
highly-qualified sugar cane technicians in Cuba, Cuban research centers’
potentials and the interest of the association in strengthening relations
with the island.

Autrey, who visited Havana in 2011 along with businesspeople from the
Mauricio Islands-based OMNICANE Ltd, said Cubans should be part of ISSCT’s
specialized sections’ executive boards.

Regarding ATAC’s Congress, the institution’s president Eduardo Lamadrid
said the provincial meetings prior to the event have been very fruitful.
He added that the Congress is expected to contribute to improving the
results of the sugar cane harvest for this year.

The ISSCT emerged 86 years ago and it has held 27 Congresses, usually at
3-year intervals. The last Congress was held in Veracruz, Mexico. The next
XXVIII Congress is scheduled in São Paulo, Brazil in May 2013.
