These materials for popular
training, explained the expert, were prepared by him and
Engineer Ivia Vega, also from the CENAIS, as part of the
Program for the Management of Knowledge about Disaster Risks
in Central America, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
Guasch added that the research work from which the
educational manual originated obtained a regional prize for
good practices and that it’s used in Nicaragua’s 14
departments, accompanied by an audiovisual material that
complements actions to train the population.
The scientist informed that the material reflects the
challenge of global climate change in Latin America, threats
for Central American nations and their assessment at
communities, causes of disasters, and physical,
environmental, social and economic vulnerabilities.
He recalled that, since 2004,
the CENAIS specialists have developed experiences in the
strengthening of the capacity of the Nicaraguan municipality
of El Crucero to respond in the face of emergencies and
disasters, which have been expanded to El Salvador, Honduras
and Guatemala.
