Cuban
President Raul Castro Met with Visiting Iranian Counterpart
HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 12 (acn)
President Raul Castro met on Wednesday evening with his
Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who concluded on
Thursday morning an official visit to the Caribbean nation
at the invitation of the Cuban government.
During the
meeting, both leaders spoke about the excellent state of
bilateral relations and about topics of international
interest, according
to a note published by Granma and Juventud Rebelde
newspapers.
Raul
and Ahmadinejad reiterated the Cuban and Iranian commitment
to the defense of peace, international law, the principles
of the Charter of the United Nations, and the right of all
nations to use nuclear energy with peaceful purposes.
In addition, they reaffirmed their rejection of unilateral
economic sanctions.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by the Iranian
Foreign Minister,
Dr. Ali Akbar Salehi. Also present was the Cuban Minister of
Foreign
Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.
