These honors were given to the two Cuban
virtuosos for their aesthetic, ethical and moral values and for
their admirable artistic careers, the Prensa Latina news agency
reported.

Valdes, the winner of five Grammies and three Latin Grammies
said he was very proud for this tribute, "which commits
ourselves to continue doing our best in our work: music."
For her part, the Diva of the Buena Vista Social Club recalled
the figure of Cuban
National Poet Nicolas Guillen, founding president of the UNEAC.
We follow his path: we do the best we can for Cuban culture,
expressed the talented interpreter, the winner of a Latin Grammy
in Best Tropical Music Album for her CD Gracias (2009).
