The visit coincides with celebrations for the 498th anniversary of the foundation of the villa by Spanish governor Diego Velazquez, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The city’s top authorities welcomed the brigadistas, who toured its streets and museums.

According to the program, the visitors will meet this evening with members of the Hermanos Saiz Association in Sancti Spiritus, a city declared National Monument.
On Wednesday, they will visit the northern municipality of Yaguajay, the National
Museum “Camilo Cienfuegos,” who was a founder of the Rebel Army, and the Mausoleum of the Northern Front in Las Villas.

In Fomento, they will meet with soldiers who fought with Commander Ernesto Che Guevara during the revolutionary struggle against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship (1958).

The Brigade, which arrived in Sancti Spiritus on Monday, will travel on Friday to Villa Clara province, where it will visit the Memorial dedicated to Che.
