At the Havana’s Sports City’s
Coliseum the Cuban Institute of Sports,
Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) announced volleyball
players
Wilfredo Leon and Yoana Palacio as the best athletes in team’s
sports.
Precisely, volleyball was chosen as the best sport and the men´s
the best
team throughout the year. Rookie of the year award went to boxer
Lazaro
Jorge Alvarez, according to the INDER polls.
The top-10 was made up of wrestler Mijain Lopez, vault jumper
Lazaro
Borges, hurdler Dayron Robles, decathlon’s Leonel Suárez,
judokas Idalis
Ortiz and Asley González, cyclist Lisandra Guerra, chess GM
Leinier
Domínguez and taekwondo fighter Rosbelis Despaigne.
The best physical education teacher was Jorge Luis Kim, while
Yunidis
Castillo was the best handicapped athlete and ball controller
Erick López
achieved the award in special sports.
Other athletes were also acknowledged in the year´s awards like
Pan
American Game’s medallists Pedro Isaac (wrestling), Yasniel
Toleado
(boxing), Yoelmis Hernández (weight-lifting), Liban López
(wrestling) and
Guillermo Martínez (javelin)
