Cuba Gears Up for 2012 Int’l Book Fair
HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 26 (acn)
Fifty writers have confirmed their participation in the
upcoming 21st Cuban International Book Fair to take place
from February 9th though 19 and expected to bring together
around 200 guests from 34 countries.
Considered the
biggest annual literary event in the island, this year’s
Book Fair will be dedicated to the cultures of the Greater
Caribbean and
to Cuban intellectuals Ambrosio Fornet and Zoila Lapique,
Prensa Latina
reported.
According to the vice president for International Relations
of the Cuban
Book Institute, Edel Morales, among expected participants
are recipients
of the Cervantes award, the most relevant literary prize of
the Spanish
literature, as well as young writers included in the "Latin
America’s 25
Best Kept Secrets” list of the most recent Guadalajara Book
Fair, Mexico.
Among those who have confirmed their attendance in the
Havana event are 44
foreign exhibitors, while Cuban publishing houses are
getting ready for
the presentation of 46 books that are either written by
Caribbean authors
or deal with the material and spiritual culture of the
region, Morales
announced.
The Fair, which will have the Morro-Cabaña Fortresses
Complex as main
venues as traditionally, includes colloquiums on the
Caribbean, the figure
of Argentinean-born guerrilla fighter Ernesto "Che" Guevara,
and a meeting
of young writers from the region.
As usual, the fair will extend nationwide and wrap up on
March 4 in
eastern Santiago de Cuba province. Prizes include the 2012
ALBA Narrativa
and national prizes in the categories of Literature, Social
Sciences,
Design, Edition and History.
