In the meeting, Gomes Junior thanked the Cuban government for the
historical and permanent solidarity with his nation. He said to be
grateful for the participation of combatants from Cuba in the liberation
fights against Portuguese colonialism.

Gomes Junior noted that the first doctors in his country came from Cuba,
and thanked the island for the ongoing cooperation in the fields of
education and health, particularly in the training of doctors for the
public service at the Raul Diaz Argüelles medical school, from which 88
physicians just graduated.

The Prime Minister proudly showed the visitors a picture of him next to
Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, hung in his office.

Later in the day the Cuban delegation met with the president of the
Parliament of that nation who told them the legislative body had recently
passed a statement in favor of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters
unfairly imprisoned in the US.

The Cuban representatives also gathered with the 35 members of a medical
brigade from the island working in Guinea Bissau.
