Film on Cuban Tobacco-Growing Legend Premiered in Pinar del Rio
PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Dec 14 (acn) The Cuban TV station Artv
presented in Pinar del Rio the documentary film “Alejandro
Robaina, Living Mark,” a material featuring
previously-unpublished images and photos of the Cuban
tobacco-growing legend Robaina, the only person who gave name to
a cigar brand in life.

The 27-minute film, screened at the Milanes
Theater, contains anecdotes,
interviews to tobacco growers, and friends and relatives of the
charismatic farmer who was worldwide recognized by the quality
of his
cigars, highly valued in Cuba and abroad.
“After his passing we felt like we owed him a tribute, the
audiovisual
material proposes a reunion with the farmer and all tobacco
growers of the
region, which provides world-class raw material for export
cigars,” said
Armando Alvarez, one of the producers.
Likewise, during the screening of the documentary film, the
Cuban Mail
Company (Empresa de Correos de Cuba) launched a stamp with
Robaina’s
visage, the name of the movie and the date of issue.
The stamp, valid until this December 14, can be used for
certified mail,
postcards and mailed packages, in Pinar del Río, while stamp
collectors
can buy them at the Cuban Mail Museum in Havana.
Alejandro Robaina, widely known as the Cuban tobacco ambassador,
died at
91 and before passing away he left a very clear advice to those
willing to
follow his example: “The land has to be loved and heard, she
will always
say what she needs.”
